Lessons On Private Equity With Shri Iyer

When it comes to private equity, you want advice from someone well respected in the industry; someone with strategic insight and the experience to back it.  Someone like Shri Iyer.
Shri Iyer Event 1
As president of TiE entrepreneurs and principal at Three Cities Research, Inc., a New York-based private equity firm, Iyer understands the startup world and the importance of value creation for investors. This week he offered guidance to a room filled with entrepreneurs and aspirations at Platform Houston. From U of H’s student Ariana Thrasher who wants to open her own yoga studio, to Ph.D. Colin Mckay who has been working on his endeavor Smilex for almost 5 years, the crowd was just as diverse as it was passionate. Shri Iyer Event 2
Once Iyer opened the floor for discussion, the audience brought a complex problem to the table: the divide between healthcare life sciences and investment in Houston. Different audience members chimed in about the need for more funds, the lack of domain expertise in healthcare tech to take commercialization and the fact that Houston is sitting on the largest medical center in the world—the Texas Medical Center.
Shri Iyer Event 3
While the talk may have closed with no real answers to these problems, the conversations continued afterwards with creative minds like Sue Shiao from N3Dbio and Ron Bryant, MD from HubMed. The closing energy felt invigorated and hopeful; yet another successful event at Platform Houston.

About Michelle Lenzen

"I wasn't born here but I got here as fast as I could"- Bumper sticker Michelle once laughed at, until she realized it was her life as a new found Texan. While studying in the exotic cornfields at the University of Illinois, Michelle discovered the budding world of entrepreneurship. Ready for a change of scenery, she headed down to Texas after graduation. It was a sad goodbye to the startup community she knew and loved up north. Yet she felt hopeful that Texas had big things to offer. On a quest to connect with inspired minds she found Startup Houston. And the rest, well that’s history in the making.
